With Grace....

Not long ago, I was talking to a friend about aging, she is about six years younger than I am...
She asked why wasn't I twisted about aging...
I asked was I supposed to be...she looked at me like, 'Of course...'
Well, I am not...
It is a given that if you are born and you keep livin'...
Aging is a part of the deal...
What I have tried to do is age as gracefully as possible,
That starts with an open heart, mind and spirit...
Which is probably nine tenths of the law...
Add to that healthy food, loads of sleep, moderate excercise...
Moisturizer...
Giggles and laughter and regulars O's...yes you heard it here...
Aging gracefully is a shoe-in...
Another big reason I don't trip is because I never stop growing,
I feel that growing spiritually, mentally and emotionally is a from the cradle to the grave endeavor...
And deciding at some point, not to sweat the small stuff, and realizing that mostly it is all small stuff...
Also, the women I always admired most were the elders...
As I have mentioned I come from a long line of got it going on women,
Who loved themselves and their children, passing that 'own and love yourself' message down to us'...
To this day I love to look at a got it going on elder sister and smile,
Last Sunday I was standing at the beginning of church,
I turned to shake hands and embrace the woman behind me,
That diva was elegance personified, camel colored suit with hat cocked a bit over the eye, nice red lipstick...
And a loving smile shining from her lips and eyes...I loved it...I also noticed the man, her man, standing next to her, beaming with pride...Hello...
So accepting aging is a wonderful thing,
When it is done with Grace...

smooches,
angelia

Amen, two-snaps, and all that! Great post, sis. My thing about getting older is I'm alive. And I know so many who aren't. Getting older means I'm still here and able to do my thing. How can I have a problem with that?

Excellent...funny you should blog on this today as I was just thinking this morning how devastated I was about turning 25 years ago...but now on the eve of 50 I'm looking forward to celebrating it next year!
Maybe it's because I'ma survivor and know that each day should be lived to its fullest because nothing is guaranteed. Nothing like being at death's door to feel your mortality.

Yas,
So true, and maybe that is why I got there earlier...I had some health scares of my own at a young age and got it immediately...that life is for the living, and at fifty the realization seems to solidify that life is to be celebrated....HAPPY you are a SURVIVOR...

Love and Blessings,
angelia

All I can say is three cheers to getting older.

People are always telling me that I am a baby still. If I am so much a baby why have I seen and learned from some much terrible things in my 29 years on this earth?

I get wiser with every passing day.

Each day among the living is a blessing. I have no problems telling folks that I'm 39 because I feel blessed that God allowed me to still be here.

Well at 54; I love myself so much more than I did when I was younger.

I'm not high maintenance by any standards so my look has always been natural and as I've aged, it hasn't changed much. Aging is a natural part of growing in my family and we do tend to age gracefully. At almost 80; my mother is a diva. LOL

I too see it as surviving. So many of my girlfriends have passed on without the privilge of getting older.

I'm blessed!
