Please...

What makes people get so far from their own reality, they can't see the truth for the lies...
Scenario:
People living so far out of reality, they don't know what's real...
Benzes for seventeen year olds...
Who simply want loving arms around them,
And a mother saying, 'I Love You'...
When did it get to the place where we as Black Folks,
Love our kids with stuff...
We are so consumed with what the neighbors think,
What they say we have and not who we are...
When what we give our kids is based upon what someone else has and not what is in our own hearts...WHAT UP WIT' THAT??? Tell me please, this sister needs to know...
There is no one who loves nice things more than me,
But my understanding is that it's just stuff,
My idea of the perfect holiday, is sitting next to my man,
With my sons coming in and out, eating all the food, I have lovingly prepared,
Having them bring their friends by to partake,
It broke my heart to hear of a young woman who isn't going home,
Because her parents door is closed to her,
Because she doesn't live by superficial standards and lives from her heart,
And their punishment is to reject her at Christmas time,
With the message being it isn't about my love for you...
It's about ME...
Come On People...
Is that what success means,
We are working so hard, acquiring stuff, we can no longer see what's important,
It can't be just that...Can it?

Love, Blessings, and Puzzlement...

You know, I have been bothered by this for awhile now.

And I am one who has given my babygirl more material things than I had as a youngster (there were six of us, and she is an only) but still I have always had a limit as to how far I go.

I can't understand some of the big ticket items that teenagers are "given" by their parents.

What about "earning" some of this stuff that they want...electronics, cars, jewelry; etc. It makes no sense to me but when a parent is emotionally unavaliable or absent in a child's day to day existence, I guess this is now what we do.

Just like the white folks, huh?

Lawd have mercy!

Sad but true, sis. Some folks have lost sight of the real meaning of life, forget just the holidays. I think we are on this earth to connect with, learn from and grow because of the people in our lives. And sadly materialism has severed and stilted what should be some of the most meaningful and profound connections. If only we could figure out what to do about it. We certainly don't need to be raising up another generation this way.

Queen I,
I too gave my kids a lot. But they also had to work and had chores and cars were adult purchases...one thing I gave them in abundance was LOVE AND ME...

Lady Gwyneth,
I am distressed by it because if that is success no wonder so many young people are anti-sucess and are all about 'keeping it real' I am working fast and furiously on trying to inspire change but it's hard work..every step of the way...

Love and Blessings,

I have to tell you those fancy cars like ferraris and coevettes for a child may cost you a child. This I know because I have seen the wheelchair bound vegetables that used to be a teenager who played football. Because instead of time, love and affection they got the opportunity to showoff what they parents bought them .
I am so different. Yes, my children want for nothing because that's how my husband grew up. But I tell them all the time I prefer the things you draw or write me, because that comes from your heart. The store bought things I can get for myself. I spend time with them and I show then that I care. That is the season for me everyday not just a Christmas.

Jen,
that is it, there is nothing wrong with providing for your children, that's why God blesses us with resources but to allow stuff to get in the way of LOVE and UNDERSTANDING IS INSANE...when I think of what brings me the greatest joy is when I think of how loved I am and how capable I am of loving...

I'm confused by that as well. As someone who has not had, or ever needed, much I can't understand the 'having things makes me successful' mentality. There must be a lot of cold beds at night and a lot of empty hearts during the day...

stay peace
