Some Touch...

Are there ever times when a hug is like elixir,
Or a hand on the shoulder is better than koolaid?
Of course there is, everyone needs some touch,
I know so many people who I often think,
If they would only allow some touch...
Shells around them so hard...
Touching is healing,
I can remember the best way to calm my sons,
Was to rub their heads,
When they come home now,
They always want my hand on their heads,

I recall when my mother was dying,
She would sit next to me on the sofa,
Allowing me to moisturize her skin,
She was never one much for saying she needed anything,
So since her skin was so dry from radiation and chemotherapy,
She allowed me to place a concoction on her skin,
To 'Moisturize'
It was quite simple actually,
A bottle a Johnson's Aloe Baby Oil Gel,
Squeezed out halfway and Shea Butter lotion added...
But I would rub it on her flattened chest, from a double mastectomy,
Her arms, legs and back and she would literally coo,
I loved that because Mama wasn't much of a hugger and a kisser,
Since she has been gone, there are many women who fill the holes in my life,
And many of them hug me, kiss me, touch me when we are sitting side by side..
Which was startling for me at first, because after all, I am my mother's daughter,
But I got used to it,
Learned to love it, embrace it, expect it,
Sometimes I joke with my husband,
About how many women I kiss...
Because I learned that many of these women in their seventies, eighties and nineties,
Who I love and who love me,
Are older, but very much alive,
Aging does not change the need,
To feel a loving hand,
Or fingers on a scalp.
Some Touch is healing,
So reach out and touch someone you love,
It has a reciprocal value!

Love and Blessings,
Angelia

A hug is all some folks need to get them through the day and if not a hug, a simple smile will do.

I am the one you described with the hard shell. I don't give many hugs or kisses. I wasn't raises with hugs and kisses, and since I'm afraid to be hurt. I don't allow anyone to get to close to my heart.
