FOR THE LIFE OF ME...

Yesterday I was sitting in church in my hometown,
And I noticed an abundance of pregnant girls...
Yes girls, they were all eighteen or younger, unmarried, un or underemployed and pregnant,
For the life of me I don't understand...
Is it that young ladies are so desperate to have something to call their own,
Or is it because they are church girls and parents, for whatever reason are not talking to them about contraception or gasp...more importantly sexual safety...
One young woman is the sister to a young lady who had three babies by age twenty,
So surely she knows the consequences....
What in the world is going on...
And what touches me, frighteningly, more than anything else,
Is this indicates how many young people are playing sexual Russian Roulette...
Why in the world aren't these mothers or some woman in their lives not having conversations with them....
Later in the day I see a young man who has several children,
With several women,
Can barely take care of himself,
But women are hopping in the bed with him,
Unprotected, getting pregnant,
For the life of me....
I just don't understand,
Why the young sisters will just throw caution to the wind,
And engage intimately with a man,
Who they know is slinging it all over town,
Without protection,
And add a child to the mix...
Could someone please explain it to me,
Because FOR THE LIFE OF ME....
I am without understanding or comprehension...
I just don't understand...

LOVE PEACE...BLESSINGS,
angelia

Hello Angelia -- I share your same observations and concerns and have had thoughts that despite the "safe sex" campaigns, it is not practiced routinely or as frequently as most folk believe -- and I'm not talking about teens. I don't know what the allure of single parenthood is -- nor is the title "baby mama" (which is soooo not cute, imo). It's the new millennium -- I'd like to see our girls be smarter, more responsible and proactive with thier futures, their bodies, and ultimately their lives!!!

Phyllis,
It is so scary...and mind-boggling, considering the strided that our young women are making academically and economically...seems they have it totally together until it comes to the man/woman thing...no one can explain it to me in a way that makes a bit of sense...

Blessings!

I see the same thing. I sum it up as young girls losing focus. I think mothers can talk to their daughters about safe sex but if the girls don't stay focused on improving their lives, the wise words go in one ear and out the other. Then sadly, it becomes a continous cycle :-(

Happy Belated Mothers Day!

And for your question, I don't understand either. You know I work with young people and actually it's against our policy to talk about sex/protection/abstinence with them. Do I anyway? I cannot confirm nor deny...lol But there still presents a challenge with those who do have conversations with their adults-in-training. The message may be sent but not received. I think it takes more than just conversation with the new ones. Parents need to be more proactive in making sure their children are engaged in activities that leave them little time for experimenting or falling in lust, kwim?

We have tons of great parents who have tons of great conversations. But were in a world where work trumps parenting and when we find a way to make the real priority top the list, then we're headed in the right direction. Until then, this is going to get worse.

But I have a good feeling about the generation after my childrens...I just do

Hugs and love!

Hello there,

I don't understand it...

I am from the traditional two-parent home where parents got married prior to having children...

I just had a post about celibacy and there were still women who were baffled by the mere notion of not being tools for someone else's sexual gratification...

The post about the black whore complex was just as difficult for many sistas some to wade through.

I am sooo glad you are addressing this at your blog...

We need to keep that discussion going.

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
